Fiat’s stylish new 500byGucci model, which was launched at an exclusive party in London on Monday (27 June), will make a special appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.

The special edition of the iconic Fiat 500, which has been customised by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini in partnership with Fiat’s Centro Stile, will make its first public appearance at the world famous classic car festival in a themed display within the stunning country grounds of the Goodwood estate, near Chichester.

The Fiat 500byGucci will be situated at Goodwood’s Laundry Green from 1-3 July, as star attraction at the ChicNic – a contemporary and stylish summer picnic in breathtaking British surroundings.

The space will be transformed into a 500byGucci luxury retreat featuring immaculate rolling lawns, bridged by manicured gravel paths and framing a spectacular water feature. As croquet and boules are played on the lawn, guests will be able to relax with a luxury picnic and chilled glasses of bubbly under pristine white canopies.

Fiat Automobiles SpA and Fiat Yamaha Team celebrate with Jorge Lorenzo the 2010 MotoGP World Title

Thanks to the result achieved on Sunday in Sepang during the Malaysian Grand Prix, the Spaniard Fiat Yamaha Team rider Jorge Lorenzo won his first World Champion title in the MotoGp class.

The Yamaha Factory Team has been officially sponsored by FIAT Automobiles SpA since 2007. It has established itself again at the top of motorcycling world adding this third laurel in a row after those won by Valentino Rossi in 2008 and 2009.

The five-hundred thousandth 500 has rolled off the line: a huge success dedicated to the people who longed for it, designed it, and perhaps even bought it, just like you. To celebrate, we are creating 500 Thousandth, an exclusive one-of-a-kind car, and we’re giving you a special chance to be part of it. All you need to do is show your face! Are you ready to show your face? You can now book one of the 1500 places available and send us your best happy photo. But hurry up, as places are limited!

Bookings for a place on the car will become available now. Click here and use the special application showing a plan view of the Fiat 500. A few minutes later, after registering, they can book one of the free spaces online by sending a photograph.
Seventy per cent of the places are reserved for Fiat 500 owners. Users can also attach a short text describing their relationship with the car, or a link either to a personal video on YouTube or to their personal Facebook page.

The showcar will be ready three weeks after the booking stage is concluded and will feature in forthcoming events and international motor shows. The Fiat 500 Thousandth will be the first ‘collective car’, a further confirmation of the spirit of the original model with potential customers being involved from the earliest stages of design.

Pink My Ride - Live!

David Sheath (28) a former semi-professional footballer, is hoping to create history by becoming the first person to paint an entire car using nail varnish and earn himself a place in the Guinness Book Of World Records with the longest online advert ever.

The record attempt, which is to be streamed live on the internet, could take him a week to complete. David, who lives in London but is from Wales, will use over 200 pots of pink nail polish and a predicted 240,000 strokes in order to transform a white Fiat 500 to a Fiat 500 Pink.

David is currently single and will live in a South London studio, until the car is completed. He will communicate with the outside world using Twitter.

David says: “I wanted a challenge since I recently split up with my girlfriend and do something no one has ever done before. If you want to give me a helping hand and earn you place in the history books just register on the website for the chance to come and join me!”

Thousands of people escaped the hurly burly of Oxford Street to relax at ‘The Big Smile’ over August Bank holiday. Inside a specially made ‘urban park’, the star attraction was a giant 500C, with big seats to climb on and a light show that dazzled and amazed. Outside in the sun, visitors relaxed in deck chairs with ice creams and popcorn, whilst being entertained by stilt walkers and magicians.

All members of the Fiat 500 family were on display for people to explore, and there was more fun to be had with the ‘Smile and Win’ competition, where pulling your brightest smile in a 500C could win you a stylish mini-break with your favourite Fiat 500. Part of a European tour, next stop for the Big Smile is Berlin.

A giant Fiat 500C – five times the normal size – is coming to the UK as part of a Europe-wide tour to promote the popular new convertible. The 5:1 scale model of the car has appeared before on Fiat’s International motor show stands around the world, but this latest version simulates the ‘open-top’ style of the 500C with a spectacular projection of the sky on to the inner lining of the car’s roof.

It’s coming to the centre of London for an event entitled 'The Big Smile', from 28 August until 2 September, and will be situated at a special venue called Parklife, on Oxford Street – one of the busiest shopping streets in the world.

The showcase will generate awareness of the new Fiat 500C and is designed to make people smile when they see it – much like the effect created when driving the real car. The summer mood of The Big Smile event will be enhanced by bright internal hoardings recreating park scenes, deckchairs and plants, while roaming entertainers, free competitions to win the loan of a Fiat 500, stilt walkers and snack stalls will provide fun and refreshment.

Examples of the Fiat 500, 500C and 500byDiesel will also be on display.

The Big Smile will be open at the following times:

500C VIP Launch Party Video

In July, the sexy new convertible from Fiat was the star of the show at a VIP launch event in London’s Park Lane. The London launch party was one of an International series of sparkling celebrity events celebrating the arrival of Fiat’s latest soft-top.

Fiat took over London nightclub hotspot, Whisky Mist, for the evening, creating a unique 500C hologram and specially lit decorations throughout the club. New music sensation and ‘Critics choice’ Florence & the Machine, played a special live set and wowed the crowd with an acoustic version of ‘Rabbit Heart’. Afterwards they enjoyed DJ sets from Pam Hogg, Tom Crane and Dan Macmillan alongside other guests, while drinking specially created “convertible” cocktails.

Will another award for Eco:Drive encourage drivers to change?

Fiat has just been honoured with another award for its innovative eco:Drive technology – picking up Auto Express’s Special Award at the magazine’s New Car Awards 2009 earlier this week.

Fiat’s eco:Drive system is designed to save fuel and reduce exhaust emissions. It allows drivers to download a record of their driving style from car to computer with a USB memory stick, and shows them how to reduce their impact on the environment.

Launched by Fiat last year, and available at www.fiat.co.uk/ecodrive, this free-of-charge award-winning system helps motorists understand the impact of their driving in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and offers suggestions on how to improve efficiency further by changing driving habits.

In recognising the significance of Fiat’s eco:Drive technology, Auto Express comments: “complex fuel-saving technology is all very well, but everyone knows that the key to achieving good economy in any car is the driver. That’s why we couldn’t ignore Fiat’s clever eco:Drive computer application this year.

“Using the manufacturer’s Blue&Me USB interface, it allows motorists to download telemetry from their vehicle, just like a Formula One racer does – only the aim is to help drivers improve their efficiency rather than their pace. The free set-up is already being used by 40,000 Fiat owners and is credited with saving a staggering 910,000 kg-plus of CO2.

“The eco:Drive software supplies a stream of information, and measures everything from fuel economy to CO2 emissions to calculate your economy index. It then provides helpful advice on how to improve your score and sets you a target for your next download. Improvements of up to 15 per cent are claimed for the system, simply by changing motorists’ habits behind the wheel.

“This innovative product is designed to improve economy and reduce CO2 output, but the system also helps to cut fuel bills – and in the current economic climate, that’s something everyone can appreciate.”

A Winner at the British Moto Grand Prix

The typical British weather (rain), provided slippery conditions on the final day of the 2009 British Moto Grand Prix at Donnington.

It was a mixed day for the Fiat-sponsored Yamaha team, who saw Valentino Rossi ride his luck - to pick up his M1 from a midrace crash to come home fifth - and extend his World Championship lead, whilst his team-mate and title rival Jorge Lorenzo spectacularly crashed out of the race lead.

Fiat gave lucky competition winner Sarah Slade a pair of weekend tickets. She had a fabulous time and was able to get up close to the action. "We had access to the Yamaha hospitality suite and had a tour of the Yamaha workshop - my husband was in his element!" She said.

Us! The Fiat Fanzine - 2nd Issue

In Spring 2009, Fiat launched the second issue of their already popular Fanzine, Us!

Having received such a good response to the first issue, Fiat followed this up with another jam-packed read, this time to an increased customer base.

Articles include Fiat's role in the making of 'The Italian Job', a snow patrol in the Scottish Highlands with Panda Cross, and the art of parking in Fiat's hometown, Turin, Italy.
